Nancy Hastings-Trew

Nancy Hastings-Trew comes to the field of graphic design from a fine arts background. Trained at the School of Visual Arts of the University of Windsor, she specialized in drawing and painting with minors in print-making and art history.

Hastings-Trew pursued a career as a painter during the 70's, 80's and early 90's, exhibiting her work in Stratford at Gallery 96 and The Gallery Stratford, and was a member of the Stratford Guild of Artists. She was represented by Nancy Poole's Studio in Toronto from 1985 to 1988, the Gibson Gallery in London, Ontario from 1993 to 1995, and the Turquoise Dolphin in Stratford, Ontario in 1995 and 1996.

Her large colorful canvases, realistic in their depiction of figures, outdoor urban settings, still life and interiors are a reflection of modern life. These works are represented in a number of private and corporate collections. To view some of Nancy's paintings, visit this page.

Nancy Hastings-Trew enjoyed a long association with the Stratford Festival Theatre as part of the production team, working variously as a milliner, costume decorator, jeweler and painter. From her 17 years experience there she gained a high reputation for the caliber of her work and her ability to invent creative solutions to design problems. Working closely with many renowned theatre designers has given her a unique insight into the creative process and an ability to interpret and bring to life the ideas of others.

From hands-on experience in the printing business and a background in both natural media and computer graphics and programming, Hastings-Trew turned her interpretive skills to the challenging field of graphic design and web site development in 1995 when she opened her own business, hypertext digital publishing. Her flair is evident in the creative use of both type and imagery in her printed work and the innovative application of her programming and graphics skills in the creation of web pages.
